Key Highlights:
Tata Motors has started delivering 148 new electric buses to the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC). These buses are part of the city's growing fleet of electric public transport, which already includes 921 electric buses currently in operation.
Flag-off by government officials
The first batch of buses was officially flagged off by Karnataka's Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy and BMTC’s Managing Director Ramachandran R., IAS. Several senior officials from the state government and BMTC attended the event.
Operated under a 12-year contract
The new buses will be operated and maintained by TML Smart City Mobility Solutions Ltd. This company is a wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Motors. The contract for managing these buses will remain in place for 12 years as agreed between Tata Motors and BMTC.
Leadership insights:
Ramachandran shared that the Tata electric buses already running in the city have shown strong performance and received positive feedback from passengers. He said the new addition will help BMTC serve more areas in Bengaluru with improved frequency and reliability.
Anand S, Vice President of TML Smart City Mobility Ltd. and Head of Commercial Passenger Vehicles at Tata Motors, noted that the earlier batch of buses had already covered more than six crore kilometres. He confirmed Tata’s long-term support to help Bengaluru build a greener and more efficient transport system.
Modern features for city travel
The Tata Starbus EVs come with a low-floor design for easy boarding, 35 passenger seats, and advanced safety technologies like Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD). Being fully electric, these buses do not produce tailpipe emissions, making city air cleaner.
