Swedish commercial vehicle giant Scania has announced a major strategic move to expand its operations in India by partnering with GMMCO Limited, a company under the CKA Birla Group. The collaboration aims to enhance Scania’s reach across Northern, Eastern, and Central India under a new dealer-driven business model.
Scania Commercial Vehicles India Pvt. Ltd. confirmed the appointment of GMMCO Limited as its authorized dealer partner, marking a significant change in its India strategy. The move represents Scania’s transition from direct sales to a dealer-based distribution system designed to improve regional coverage and offer faster, more efficient customer service.
Under this new arrangement, GMMCO will oversee sales and service operations across Northern, Eastern, and Central India. Meanwhile, PPS Motors, Scania’s existing partner, will continue to handle operations in the Southern and Western regions. This clear division of territories ensures nationwide coverage and better support for customers across the country.
Through this new model, Scania will focus on product planning, innovation, and lead generation, while dealers will independently manage sales, service, invoicing, documentation, aftermarket operations, and inventory.
“The appointment of GMMCO marks an important step in Scania's India growth journey,” said Silvio Munhoz, Managing Director of Scania Commercial Vehicles India Pvt. Ltd. He emphasized that GMMCO’s extensive service network and strong industry presence were key reasons behind this partnership.
Chandrashekar V, Managing Director and CEO of GMMCO Ltd., expressed optimism about the collaboration. He highlighted GMMCO’s strong infrastructure and service capabilities across multiple sectors, which will help drive Scania’s growth and deliver a seamless customer experience.
GMMCO, established in 1967, is a key player in the infrastructure, mining, energy, and transportation sectors, with an annual turnover exceeding ₹5,000 crore.
This partnership supports Scania’s global strategy of offering complete transport solutions, not just vehicles. The company aims to deliver application-specific product options, customized service packages, financial solutions, and performance optimization through its connected services platform.
Scania first entered the Indian market in 2007, focusing on the mining and construction segments. It later established its Indian subsidiary in 2011 and operates an assembly facility near Bangalore to support its commercial vehicle operations.
