Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal and LG V K Saxena flagged off 500 new electric buses today. Delhi is now the city with the most electric buses in the country with a total adding up to 1,300.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena have introduced 500 low-floor electric buses in the city. With this, the total number of electric buses has reached well over 1,300 for Delhi Transport Corporation’s fleet.
Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot said, “Under the leadership of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, this year we brought over 1,300 electric buses, the highest by any state. Since these buses use clean fuel, it will help make city travel emission free.”
“We will replace our CNG buses with electric ones in the coming years, and Delhi will be the first city to have an electric bus fleet,” he added.

Tata Motors has manufactured these buses and they offer many unique features and benefits to passengers. The electric buses will have a driving range of 225 km per single charge as per a senior Delhi government official. For the safety and comfort of passengers, these e-buses will feature:

Environmental Benefits of Electric Buses
Since January 2022, as many as 800 e-buses have been working on different Delhi roads, covering a distance of more than 42 million km. This helped cut more than 34,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide according to an official.
Additionally, each one of the newly introduced buses will help reduce 0.33 million tonnes of carbon dioxide during their 10 year service lifespan. By 2025, Delhi will have a total of 10,000 electric buses making up 80% of its fleet. They will help cut CO2 emissions by 4.67 tonnes annually.
In a recent partnership with the US, India is aiming to introduce 50,000 electric buses on the roads by 2027, showcasing the government’s efforts to promote sustainable and eco friendly public transportation in the country.
