Key Highlights:
Cummins India has introduced its new Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) to support India’s shift towards sustainable and renewable energy. These systems are designed to store energy efficiently and help industries manage power supply better.
The BESS units will be available in two container sizes: 10ft and 20ft. Their energy output will range between 200 kWh to 2 MWh, giving flexibility for different energy needs. Cummins has used lithium-iron phosphate batteries in the system for longer life and safety. A liquid cooling system has been added to maintain battery temperature, ensuring stable performance.
The units are modular and scalable, which means they can be expanded or adjusted based on the power needs of different users. They also have a plug-and-play setup for faster installation and operation.
Useful for Multiple Sectors
Cummins says the BESS units can support many sectors such as manufacturing, mining, commercial buildings, and data centers. These industries often need reliable backup power and consistent energy quality. With this launch, Cummins aims to offer cleaner energy options and help users manage power costs more effectively.
The BESS units are built with safety in mind. They meet international safety standards and come with a three-tier fire safety system to reduce risk during operation.
Leadership insights:
Speaking about the launch, Shveta Arya, Managing Director of Cummins India, said that India’s energy landscape is changing and moving toward more renewables. She said the new BESS will support this transition and help meet sustainability goals.
Pankaj Kapoor, Vice President, Distribution Business at Cummins India, added that the company’s goal is to assist customers not just with energy storage but also with cost control and power quality improvement.
Domestic Focus First
For now, Cummins will offer the BESS only in the Indian market. The company will use its existing support network for installation, maintenance, and customer service. Cummins India has over 480 service points across the country, ensuring wide coverage and fast response.
